Williams said the effort will be called the “Citizens Reclaiming Constitutional Liberties PAC.” He told CNN that paperwork is currently being filed to establish the group and that it should be up and running by August 16. From there, the PAC will proceed in raising seed money and finding candidates it deems conservative enough, Williams said.

Glenn Beck: ”Context Matters!” unless you are talking about Mark Williams…
Apparently I somehow wound up part of conversation on today’s Glenn Beck show. We missed it and our DVR was otherwise engaged, but several people emailed me to express concern over whatever was said.
Glenn Beck is perhaps the greatest satirist of our time, so less overt and more subtle than for example Jon Stewart. It is so subtle in fact that Glenn’s punchline is only apparent when you take a step back and see the influence of the likes of Wally George and Glenn’s own shock jock act.

The big difference is that the late George and the early Beck let their audience in on the joke. For today’s Glenn Beck the joke is on those who take him seriously as anything more than a wonderful entertainer.
I am a huge fan, love his work, think highly of him personally and appreciate his humor but also keep him in that perspective. To paraphrase something that Jerry Springer said to me following a 1996 or ’97 episode of his show on which I was a ringer guest… at the end of the hour it is simply a brilliantly executed, satirical and entertaining rant on our times.
Maybe more to say later, maybe not.
Update, Saturday morning
Still haven’t seen the video or spoken with Amy (Kremer – who was also a direct victim of Glenn’s humor last night) or Glenn (probably won’t, got a busy weekend and traveling next week) but several more of you have told me that Beck and his writing staff made up some outrageous and racist quotes, combined them with bits and pieces of things that I have indeed said over the years and created entirely new and over the top, insanely racist ideas that he then attributed to me. It also seems like Amy fell victim to an invitation to participate in a “discussion” that was in fact a ruse to add a depth of credibility to the joke. The joke doesn’t work with just Glenn and Jenny Beth Martin, both of whom were in on the gag.

For the record; I would not have accepted an invitation to appear on the show (if offered) unless I was in Jenny Beth’s position of playing Larry to Glenn’s Moe. And nobody from Glenn’s show – or from any show on Fox other than Geraldo’s for that matter – have contacted me to ask about the accuracy of any of their reporting on the things that I have said or done, either before during or after any of their shows. Neither did Glenn or his people give me a heads up that I would be the punchline of their nightly humor. They did what the other media have been doing, which is to keep repeating the same falsehoods over and over again with the story becoming more and more outrageous with each telling. The only difference here being that Beck’s show did not act out of being lazy but (if what you are telling me is accurate) rather they truly did manufacture material on purpose and place it into my mouth.
This story has reached such silly proportions that at one point Arianna Huffington actually published that I was a leader of entire apartment communities’ “witchcraft” ceremonies’ featuring “clouds of pot smoke” around.
In Awe of Shock
As Glenn will be the first to tell you he is a shock jock. He and I came out of the same Tampa Shock Jock school at Jacor Radio (now part of Clear Channel). Other than Glenn my class alumni include Lionel, Mark Larsen (not the one in San Diego – this one in Tampa) who is podcasting these days and (like me) filling in on the air for other broadcast hosts from time to time and Bubba the Love Sponge (Todd Clemm) who is a major Florida star and Todd Schnitt (aka MJ in the Morning on the Power Pig) and for whom I fill in from time to time. There was also a whole host of extraordinarily talented producers and production wizards with a mixed record of success since. We were all trained and taught to do whatever it took – the more outrageous the better – to get ratings that were then transformed into advertising revenue. By way of example, at one point we even re-branded one of our stations (News Radio 970 WFLA) as NUDE Radio 970 WFLA, repainted one of our vans with that slogan and hired strippers to ride on the roof – buck-ass naked – in a community parade.
Most if not all of us other than Glenn and Bubba have since abandoned the shock element from our acts.
I flunked the “shock jock” course, was fired and went on to continue my journalistic career after retiring literally to the beach (Clearwater) for a year.

When Howard Stern bolted from broadcast radio to the obscurity of satellite Glenn Beck became the last real shock jock standing, and a clean-cut version that you wouldn’t mind your daughter dating toboot.
It has always been part of Glenn’s act to make things up. Not entirely mind you, but make them up nonetheless while leaving just enough truth to be able to claim credibility. As you know he is an accomplished stand up comedian and that is also part of how a comic comes up with material… they take the truth, give it a twist and find a laugh.
Clear Channel was able to use the troops and support for them to build him a national radio following.
CNN mistook what Glenn does as “journalism” and his audience as supportive of him and not actually supportive of the troops. That led to his first real ratings disaster with Turner Broadcasting.
Fox on the other hand recognized that Glenn was a unique practitioner of a form of using news and issues as bread and circuses for the masses. They built him a show and staff that reflected that, gave him the creative freedom to fly or fail and he has flown like an eagle.
Stephen Colbert uses a flying eagle as his show’s symbol in what could almost be an open parody of Glenn Beck’s act.
Last week, as Beck was defending Shirley Sherrod by throwing Andrew Brietbart under the bus he railed on for a full hour, using the phrase “CONTEXT MATTERS!” over and over and over again (click here for that story). His point being that it was his opinion that Breitbart had puposely presented Sherrod’s statements out of context to make her appear to be a racist when she and her point were quite the opposite.
Nobody was more surprised when just days later Beck came after me; stripped my story of all context, warped my intent and did exactly to me that which he accused Breitbart of doing to Sherrod.
Decide for yourself whether or not Beck was right in his damnation of Breitbart but do no let go unnoticed that for purposes of his own Glenn Beck DID present things that I wrote and replaced their context with a fabricated context more suited to his narrative.
Glenn, you were right last week – context DOES matter and in my case you had to create a false context or your gag of the day would not work.
Folks, Glenn is leaning back in his chair, grinning widely and saying to his staff about his viewers “Got ‘em again”, meaning you.
Repeat after me: The operative word in the phrase”‘Glenn Beck Show” is “‘Show”.

“I feel compelled to separate myself from any further involvement with the Tea Party Express so that I can pursue other interests and to free the tea party movement from any more distraction based on my personal comments or blogs.
The media coverage over a recent satirical posting on my personal MarkTalk.com blog risks injuring the Tea Party Express, the tea party movement as a whole, and the people in this movement who I respect and admire so much. It has become increasingly unacceptable that the media and our domestic enemies continue to anoint me as the official voice of a massively diverse and broad-based movement and that they do so for the explicit purpose of distorting my plain, working class, American English in all its political incorrectness.
This nation is in crisis, and beyond the struggling economy and suffocating deficits, is what I consider to be the most troubling development recently: this nation’s slide towards socialism and abandonment to the fundamental Constitutional principles that have made America great. I do not wish to be used as ammunition against our own cause so to that end I am removing myself from the equation and severing ties to the Tea Party Express in order to deny the race-baiters and dividers like National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Ben Jealous fuel for their hellish flames; and to deny opportunistic frauds seeking to cash in on a sincere and critical movement as are bottom feeding RINO plants. Make no mistake, they are in this for any reason other than themselves and what they think is a big pay day.
Ronald Reagan so correctly and eloquently explained that America is truly mankind’s best hope for freedom. Our respect for the individual rights and freedoms is unmatched around the globe yet our politicians in Washington seem determined to change this legacy of freedom. We are in a war for the future of this country and the Left and their allies in the news media have decided to use my personal comments and views as a weapon to injure the tea party movement and conservative activists. I will simply not allow them to do this. If falling on a sword is what it takes to deny those kinds of Benedict Arnolds ammunition than that is what it takes.
I have so much respect and admiration for all of you at the Tea Party Express and the tea party activists I have gotten to know and work with across this great nation. I am going to continue to fight on the side of liberty but it is clear that doing so with any affiliation with the Tea Party Express is not the best way to do so.
I do however fully intend to continue to fight in the spirit of and for the causes of the Tea Party Movement and to expose the likes of Meckler, Martin and Wildman.

Text of my email to Bill O’Reilly, sent today in response to his rip on me on yesterday’s O’Reilly Factor:
“As Bill was ranting yesterday (7/21) about not being able to find me I was guest hosting the syndicated Roger Hedgecock radio show and broadcasting the audio of Bill ranting about not being able to find me. Was very funny! The audience loved it actually. Apparently there are even more mixed feelings about Bill as there are about me! lol!
I appear on shows where discussion ensues, I don’t allow myself to be booked on shows where it is all about the host looking to play a game of verbal half-ball and use me as the mute wall at Charlestown High. The guest you booked, Dana, is an up and coming young talk star and very effective tea party activist but dear goodness you put her in a horrible light. The least that she and Bill could have done was to know the basic facts of the story that they were there to discuss.
Beyond that, a peace was brokered between representatives of the NAACP, Urban League and others – including Rev. Al and myself, to dial down the language and egos because all of that was getting in the way of actual discussion and honest disagreement. Moreover (and this is my verbiage) it was playing into the hands of domestic enemies like Barack Hussein Obama Jr. to divide Americans into tribes along social, economic, status, color and geographic lines. That is critical for them to accomplish if they are to succeed in their goal of destroying our Constitutional Republic.
In fact, the instant that Ben Jealous said last week that he would be open to discussions with the tea parties about finding common ground I pulled my controversial post highlighting his organization’s use of the term “Colored People” and advocacy for dependence on government for those people it (the NAACP) classifies as “Colored”. It was inflammatory and was so on purpose, the purpose being to force us all – the NAACP included – to deal with words for their actual meanings and clear the decks for real conversation.
And it worked, for a moment.
Then along comes some carpet-bagging nobody named “Webb” who appears on Face the Nation to expel me from a group to which I never belonged and the vapid CBS “news” people, still blissfully unaware of events beyond the 495 Beltway let it slide. I did not return calls from most media because those requests were designed to fuel Webb’s crass publicity seeking and wrecking of the great progress made.
For the record Webb is seeking not only his 15 minutes of fame but also to set himself up as a Tea Party Taliban chief mutawwain tasked with maintaining the purity of tea party thought according to his personal dogma.
Neither did I really get the feeling that Bill had much interest in advancing the story as much as capitalizing on a blazing headline, his subsequent treatment of the story pretty much confirms that. Had Bill bothered to mention yesterday that I was among the first to come to the defense of Sherry Sherrod this email would be probably reaching out to accept a booking, because that would have been confirmation of “Fair and Balanced”.
I will however be doing a Fox News appearance this weekend, on Geraldo at Large. It was Geraldo who brokered the peace and got us all to tone down the language and while he and I have famously clashed I nonetheless respect his role in this national debate and believe that his intentions are far less self-serving that those of Bill and much closer to the Fair and Balanced that we have come to expect from Fox News Channel.
If you do personally read this Bill, I am disappointed. As a FOBO (Fan of Bill O) it really hurts to watch you conduct shows like you were auditioning to fill in for Chris Matthews or Dylan Ratigan. Not to mention that you don’t even have the class to mention that I am the guy who literally wrote the book on the tea party movement… “Taking Back America One Tea Party at a Time.”
Oh, this Saturday and Sunday I will be guest hosting for Barbara Simpson (4 – 7 PM Pacific) on Hot Talk 560 KSFO AM in San Francisco (listen link: www.ksfo.com) and am scheduled to be again on Geraldo’s show (waiting on confirmation of Sat or Sun).

Guilty until proven innocent is the standard set for witch hunts, show trials and morally bankrupt regimes and craven media. Just ask me, I’m in the middle of one of those storms. It is one that involves some of the same players as Sherrod’s plight.
I don’t know Shirley Sherrod beyond the extent that you know Shirley Sherrod. She was until today a USDA official, forced to resign following release of a video of her explaining to an NAACP audience this past March 27, 2010 how she over came her own racist tendency in a personal battle inside her head about whether or how much to help a white farmer in danger of losing his farm some 24 years ago.
Portions of the March video released todayyinstantly went viral on the Internet.
In the portion of the video on line and later on TV she appeared to damn herself by revealing her internal struggle. The farmer’s perceived (by Sherrod) attitude of “superiority” pushed some sort of visceral button that she had to fight to ignore.
The instant smack down from the NAACP and the White House was worthy of what should happened to the gang of New Black Panthers threatening to crack Crackers at a Philly polling station. But all they did was threaten to go Third World on little old white ladies, Sherrod fought the real enemy… the evil within. We all have it, we don’t always fight to much better than a draw but in destroying someone’s life and career we need to take even more care to know if it was a win, a loss or a draw.
In the end Sherrod looks like to have pulled out at least a small victory when she she wound up helping the guy, at least according to him and she. Nevertheless or maybe because of the lack of Cracker cracking her resignation was sought and accepted by Obama’s USDA Secretary.
Then the rest of the video emerged with the rest of the story and the narrative changed from one of a mean-spirited woman seeking racial revenge to one of an internal conflict between good and evil, with good winning a small victory over evil.
You don’t throw under the bus people who demonstrate that kind of moral integrity. Well, I suppose you do when the requirement to hold high office has become one of a total absence of moral integrity.
President Barack Hussein Obama famously said during his Obamacare bullying that “process doesn’t matter.” Well Mr. President, this entire nation is based upon and supported by process and part of that process is that you allow truth to dictate action, not try to cause action to simulate truth.
Unless it turns out that Shirley Sherrod was actually articulating a racist attitude that revealed race-based, differing yardsticks for doing her job rather that revealing a painful truth then she should be reinstated at once with a sincere presidential apology for yet another blunder that again divides the nation.
Mr. President, you are just not ready for prime time and just still don’t get it. I don’t care where you were born but your understanding of this country could not be more twisted. Your job and the only priority of the entire government apparatus that you command is to protect the individual rights of each and every American, including Shirley Sherrod. And to ensure that the process does indeed play out, with the intent on arriving a truth not a politically convenient, AstroTurf ending that makes a mockery of Justice.
Man up and get with the program Mr. Obama.
