Your Education Dollars at Work: Michigan spends $1.15 million to build Facebook page for schools

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Oh that isn’t even the punchline!

They spent the money in Massachusetts, with a firm that builds Facebook  knock-off sites so that students, parents and friends can keep in touch.   One Massachusetss school district that bought one of these pages reports exactly two customers.  One education official there, sensing something amiss said  “…it hasn’t been as functional as we wanted it to be.”

Not wanting to let yet another opportunity to depopulate the state and farther impoverish whomever is left, and like a steel leg-hold trap grabbing a beaver, Michigan promptly hired the company to build a page for their schools, dedicated (they say) to keeping  jobs in Michigan.

So, to summarize:  Michigan just dropped $1,150,000.00 from their school budget, out of state (because there are zero students in any Michigan schools from K – college capable of building a web page) to poorly duplicate Facebook, in a project designed to keep jobs (and money) from leaving the state.

Why yes, in fact Governor Jennifer M. Granholm’s fingerprints ARE all over the idea.  How did you ever guess?

To quote my wife (Holly) “It just sets the head to spinn’ , doesn’t it?”

Yes dear, it does.  Here’s the link
