Thanks Placer County Republican Assembly: First Arnold now Charlie Brown
The Placer Republican Assembly (PRA) in Placer County,
(note: the Placer Republican Assembly is not to be confused with the California Republican Assembly, a true Reagan Republican organization with which I have worked, and supported on a number of issues)
The PRA came after me with a vengeance when I was the first to sound the alarm and warn republicans to use caution before taking Arnold Schwarzenegger at his word prior to the recall. They again took me to task for supporting then Senator Tom McClintock in the Recall election. The PRA was in a panic because Tom was - the PRA said - “unelectable”.
They screamed bloody murder when I caught Governor Arnold in the now infamous illegal alien driver’s license quadruple cross where his position in the end went to the highest political bidder (a coalition including among its few media champions; Roger Hedgecock, John & Ken, Melanie Morgan and me), and I revealed that he lied to everybody, on all sides of that issue. They went even more berserk when I tore into Arnold for massively expanding the borrowing and spending spree that he had been elected to stop.
Suddenly they have disowned Schwarzenegger and disavow all his policies (but not TOO loudly, somebody might notice). Having denied California voters a choice in first the recall (and again in the next general election where they assisted in silencing challengers to Arnold’s crown) and true to their own form, the PRA is again pulling out all the stops to again deny voters the right to an open and fair primary process in the California 4th Congressional District.
That seat is currently held by the soon to be former congressman John Doolittle and democrat Charlie Brown is already out shopping for drapes, and the PRA is already spreading smears.
It is the PRA’s position is that a sinking ship is better than a new boat and they are fully intent on taking Northern California democrat in the 2008 Congressional Election, and that any opinion to the contrary is suspect or bought. To do that they have set about a campaign of mud-slinging in an attempt to abort any discussion of issues. They claim that this they are doing in the name of loyalty and conservative values…. the PRA has a record of throwing both under the wheels of the bus if they think it will get them attention (one of the principals fancies himself a power-broker and loves titles the way little colonels like to cover their chests in medals - and is a true glutton for attention).
Their work on behalf of Cindy Sheehan friend Charlie Brown in the CA 4th, and previously vigorous support of Arnold (in both instances utilizing character assassination as their weapon of choice) makes ring hollow their present repudiations of the governor (which have been muted, to say the least, and usually only trotted out by way of “proving” their “Reagan” side).Like the governor they support, the Placer Republican Assembly is anything but “Republican”.
Don’t let the venom with which they attack me and others fool you. They are terrified of Eric Egland, Ted Gaines, Mark Williams any other threat to the coronation of yet another of their kind to office. Doolittle is one of the crown princes of pork on Capitol Hill and he leaves lots of droppings laying around the district from which little dung beetles make a tidy living.
