More bad news is rumored for tomorrow as Clear Channel reportedly will trim as much as 20% of their payroll,  but today’s first talk radio news of 2009 is about this shocker — 4 Heritage giants will share a single show out of St. Louis.

Rumors began to fly a couple of weeks ago as both WCCO and WBZ handed out Merry Christmas Pink Slips (KDKA had already made some moves.)  In the case of ‘BZ, people with decades into the place and who had become a fabric of the market were among those shown the door.

Starting tonight KMOX overnight personality Jon Grayson will be carried on all 4 legendary talkers.  Jon is a nice guy (he was my producer at WFLA in the early 90’s), but, wow - we’re falling like woolly mammoths at the la Brea Tar Pits. 

AllAccess.com reports that up in MSP WCCO has also eliminated its entire 4 person news department. 

What is good news for Jon (and he is jazzed) is awful news for radio, talk radio and those tattered remains of free speech that still huddle, hiding from the corporate hunters in forgotten corners of the radio dial.

For decades the late terror leader Yasser Arafat promised that if he got even a square inch of land for his operations that he would use it to take another, than another, then another – until he had “driven” the Jews “into the sea.” In 1967 he even redefined a word to describe his terrorist forces and the wretched population kept in “refuge camps” as breeding stock for more. In applying the term “Palestinian” to his people, apart from all the other Palestinians (which would be everyone indigenous to that area, ironically enough today’s “Palestinians” do not fall into that group) he transmuted a massive gang of blood thirsty, murderous animals into victims and the victims (the Israelis) into the villains.

It was a brilliant work of semantics and propaganda. Goebbels “Big Lie” refined.

Perhaps the major reason why this conflict has gone on so long however is because traditionally the United States has stepped in to hobble Israeli attempts at defending themselves by eliminating terrorist threats, even after thousands of vicious attacks. We have always been in a position to enforce our will on Israel because we have been their strongest, indeed only ally in the world and in a position to back up our demands for restraint in return for credible guarantee that we would defend them.

Well, it is not 1967 any more and the Israelis have been working to become as self-sufficient they would need to be if something happened to us.  Well, something has happened to us.  All of a sudden the United States is a paper tiger; we are weak economically, strained militarily, we are politically leaderless and swirling around the bowl as a fractured society. Incoming President Barack Hussein Obama Jr. has made it abundantly clear that under his leadership the United States will all but abandon Israel and provide protection for the home-base of Islamic Terror, Iran, while they develop the means to eliminate Israel - what the Iranians call “a stinking corpse” populated by “the sons of pigs and apes”.

Two observations; had we not been restraining the Israelis (thus enabling their enemies) all these decades then Israel would have ended this with the 1967 War, if not earlier, and we would not be seeing any of this. The second observation is that the current attacks were completely predictable….. I was one of only hundreds of news commentators to warn of this over the past year…. based only on the historic reaction in the Middle East to US weakness. Throw in the horribly unqualified Obama, let him shoot his mouth off about stuff he knows nothing about and then side with Terror and this is exactly what you get… and this one has the potential to go global.

Incidentally, we have been sliding in this direction for a long time. Bill and Hillary Clinton took restraining the Israelis for the sake of temporary peace to new heights by embracing the terror organizations and leaders of the fictional “Palestinian” people. President Bush was hopelessly incompetent and botched every opportunity in the region. Now our soon to be new president vows to take the Clinton policies and Bush incompetence to new extremes.

We are just very lucky that no nuclear weapons are involved - yet. They will be if Obama follows through with his plans to lip lock Iran’s nutwad President Ahmadinejad.

Meanwhile, Obama body-surfs in Hawaii through his second international crisis in less than a year (the Russian invasion of Georgia being the first) and says nothing. The chilling reality is that he says nothing because he does not know what to say…. or to do and is effectively hiding.

We’re in trouble.
